Description of Business – What does USA Carriers do?

USA Carriers is a transportation company, specializing in the regional distribution of product either interstate commerce (among the United States) or intrastate commerce (within a State).

Product is either brought to our facilities or we arrange for the transportation to our facilities by truck carriers, either LTL (less than truckload) or TL (truckload).

This distribution transportation service is regional in scope in that product is delivered, or distributed, to customers within an approximate 200 mile radius of a given city, or point.

As noted in our Mission Statement, our Company is based on the principle of "service thy customer", and our service reputation, as a result of extremely service sensitive employees, is the only reason for our continued growth.   Please note that our Mission Statement does not refer specifically to transportation services – our job is to service our customers and provide any service (see SERVICES) that has synergy with our Company, as well as seek other business opportunities that will benefit USA Carriers.

Located in Ft.  Wayne, Indiana, the Company is a corporation organized under the laws of the State of Indiana.   A private company, it is currently owned by Mr.  W.  Robert Fawcett and Mr.  Gerald H.  Biebuyck.   The Company was founded in 1952.

Describe your target market along with a description of the average prospective client:
  • Target Market – Distribution Transportation

    The local distribution of product as it would involve the delivery transportation portion to the customer;
as a further explanation, our Company can provide the service from
  • either the distribution center (known as a "DC")
  • or the warehouse (if that is their terminology)
  • or the vendor (or multiple vendors in a particular locale, our company performing Assembly Service)
to our terminal city from any point within the continental United States via LTL (less than truckload) or TL (truckload),
  • sort the shipments in our terminal facilities,
  • and deliver to their customer base within that geographical area.

  • Average Prospective Client

    1. Either a company who either is a manufacturer/assembly

or a distributor or a repair facility

of any product with nationwide customers, or consignee delivery points.

In order to justify the consolidation of shipments for movement to our locations (from a transportation expense standpoint) with a company’s either Transportation Department or Logistics Department, the number of customers/consignees could be as low as five depending on the pieces and weight involved.

    1. Or a Logistics company handling the transportation management of either a company or a group of companies with the same needs as above.   (These logistic companies are referred to as "Third Party Logistics" companies.   "3PL" is the acronym.)

What’s most important to your prospective clients when purchasing your services?
  • On-Time delivery.

  • Intact deliveries – complete delivery with no shortages or no damages at time of delivery.

  • Technology

  • Security – monitored camera surveillance in terminal, and background checks and reference checks for all employees.

  • Geographical coverage around a given area, or point.

  • Quality customer service – providing that "Mom and Pop" type feel.   Good local communications at the manager/supervisor level as well as upper level management communications.

  • Drug Free work place

What are the biggest frustrations your prospective clients have when doing business with your type of company?
  1. Loss of cartons, or product (including pilferage) – while the payment of claims for loss product is important, the main issue is that the product was not able to be "on the shelves" for customers.
  2. Therefore, security measures are extremely important – security as it would involve the delivery equipment, the terminal facilities, and the hiring procedures of quality employees.

  3. The absence of experienced drivers in the area of distribution.   A courteous and helpful and properly trained driver relieves the frustration of the customer’s local management in the transportation process of getting inventory in the store, or facility.

  4. Timely deliveries – on-time deliveries, according to the service parameters that the customer dictates, are extremely important.   Store, or facility, personnel are scheduled to receive in-bound product for inventory around a delivery time window for the proper management of labor cost and inventory control.   The customer measures performance, for our type of carrier.

  5. Poor communications between terminals, our offices, and the local customer.   In addition, poor communication between our office, or terminal, and the customer’s general office and/or the distribution point of origin (either a vendor or a warehouse or a Distribution Center.)

  6. The ability to handle volume fluctuations during the customer’s peak time of increased business.   Our Company handles increases in the 200% range.

  7. The lack of adequate geographical delivery coverage.

Why would a prospective client favor USA Carriers over your competition? Give specific reasons.
  • Reputation among existing accounts, the background and experience and accomplishments in 15 + years of distribution transportation.   Measured service standards to support reputation -- 97% on-time delivery range for all customers.   Very low "Claims Ratio"; meaning, very little loss of product through either theft or pilferage.

  • Technology –
  • EDI (electronic data interchange) capability,
  • Product scanning (carton, or piece, accountability, Inbound point-of-receipt thru to point-of-delivery),
  • Freight tracking capability,
  • Electronic invoicing capabilities.

  • Flexibility – customize a program to service a given customers needs and requirements.   (Example: dedicated delivery days, or dedicated window delivery times within a certain time frame such as between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM., or inside delivery, or whatever.)

  • We are willing to open any city in North America (Mexico, United States, Canada).   We have the business experience and management start-up team to begin any needed distribution operation.
